The Planning Committee of City of Edinburgh Council

Trevor Davies

Stood down from taking decision on another planning matter in the Old Town.
Has he had any similar hospitality from AMA / Grosvenor / RBS?
Ian Murray (Lab)
Vice Convener
Vice convenor on the Planning committee has admitted that people have no confindence or trust in the planning system. The admission came out in a quote to the Evening News when his boss Trevor Davies hit out at Scottish Executive reporters who overturned planning committee decisions made by the city’s committee. And Councillor Ian Murray, vice-convener of the planning committee said: “This is a clear example of why people have no confidence or trust in the planning system. It is a complete disgrace that this decision has been overturned and we have to make our dissent known.”

Our sources within the council have assured us that our highlighting of the failings of the Convenor and how it didn’t look good for him to be Leader of the Council if such sloppy cover-ups of pertinent information on planning applications and the proof that his officials are not giving him and the committee all the information they require to make decisons show that he cannot even lead the planning of the city never mind the city itself. With the bad mouthing of Executive Staff, does it not bring the words ‘pot’ ‘kettle’ and ‘black’ to mind?

Apparently known in Craigmillar as Worm. Recently locals complained that he changed policy at a community meeting to which the community had not been invited. Only present were staff paid by the community.

John Longstaff (Lab)
John Longstaff’s grasp on reality is as flawed as his judgement in joining a tired Labour administration (News, March 28). He is said to have “confirmed suspicions leaked to the Evening News in January that the Lib Dems and Tories are keen to form a coalition.”

Now, we discover that all along he has apparently backed compulsory ID cards, dawn raids on the families of asylum-seekers, loans for peerages, council tax and not a fair local income tax, selling off playing fields to support PPP school schemes, and the iniquities of the benefits system.

In March this year, the Craigmillar electoral cleansing will end up in the Court of Session as the Council are finally getting their fingers out of their arses and having the crooked cabal’s actions undone and the democratic wish of the people of Craigmillar installed back on to the community.

People in the new Craigmillar/Portobello ward will have the gormless Lawrence Marshall on their ballot paper in May - he is obviously bent - don’t vote for him

Councillor for Milton, Maureen ‘three houses’ Child who is also in charge of finance in the council’s cabal-like cabinet has mightily thrown her two fingers up the the OAPs, disabled and mothers with prams or buggies.

Childs recently refused to turn up to her surgeries at Brunstane School and forced her constituents to go into the neighbouring ward of Portobello to see her, which is very convenient because she just lives a 3 minute walk from the Portobello Town Hall where she is known as the unelected councillor for Portobello.

Jumped ship from Tories.  An Edinburgh councillor has been fined for allowing under-age teenagers to drink in in his bar. In 2002 Tom Ponton, who is deputy lieutenant for Edinburgh and a justice of the peace, had to appear before the licensing board to explain the conviction. Owns pubs so is likely to support anything with potential for the  'entertainment' and 'hospitality' industry.

The two local councillors with 'a remit' for the area are:

Lorna Sheils (Labour) Fountainbridge Ward has failed to win re-selection
Kingsley Thomas (Labour) Dalry Ward has announced he will not stand for re-election. Not suprising  given local opposition to his support for building teenage  'hostels'  in the area.

The local Residents Association GRAND is chaired by Denis Dixon. It has not held any public meeting on this issue for at least 18 months.

This is understandable, perhaps, as Denis has been selected to fight local government elections on behalf of the Scottish National Party this May.  He may find that the hundreds of signatures on a petition to accompany proposed legal action will not forgive this omission.
